Tipping in Hungary is someone what common, but don’t let that stop you from exploring Budapest and the other amazing cities in Hungary. In fact, Hungary is home of over one thousand thermal springs which most have been turned to baths and spas. Visitors rush to Budapest to see the sites and experience all the baths the city has to offer. Use our tipping guide below to figure out when you should tip and how much on your travels!
Taxis: Tipping taxi drivers is expected. 10% would be a normal tip where 15% would be an exceptional tip.
Hotels: You should tip the bell boy HUF 200-300 per bag and the housekeeping HUF 200-300 per night.
Restaurants: First make sure service isn’t included on your bill. If it isn’t then you should tip 10% of the bill, 15% for exceptional service. You should also never leave the tip on the table, it should be handed directly to the waiter when paying. Otherwise this is considered rude.
Bars: Like restaurants you should make sure service isn’t included on the bill. If it isn’t then you should tip 10% of the total directly to the bar tender.
Other: Besides what was mentioned above don’t feel the need to tip anywhere else on your travels. If you do come across a place where tipping may be required then HUF 100-200 will be fine. Though not tipping is a big insult in Hungary you still shouldn’t tip on bad service!
