Tipping in Mongolia isn’t common and rarely expected. When you are doing guided tours or visiting places catered towards westerners tipping becomes more common. Otherwise, its not really traditional and outside Ulaanbaatar or Ulan Bator rarely practiced. Mongolia should be on everyones list. The people are friendly and the landscape is beautiful. Taxis: Its common to round up the taxi fare to the nearest whole amount.
Hotels: If you are staying in a hotel catered towards westerners you can tip the bell boy 2000 MT and the maid 1000 MT a night.
Restaurants: In restaurants catered towards westerners you should tip 5-10%
Bars: Tipping Bartenders in Mongolia isn’t common or expected.
Other: Tipping isn’t common in Mongolia. If you take an organized tour then you can tip the guide 5-10% of the cost and the driver 2-5%.
