Home of the famous Panama Canal, Panama is an amazing country with some of the friendliest people in the world. If you are looking to just relax, hike or visit the beaches then Panama is the country for you! Use our guide below to figure out when you should tip and when you shouldn’t on your travels through Panama.
Taxis: Tipping a taxi driver isn’t expected, though rounding up does make things easier.
Hotels: If the bell boy was to handle your baggage then you should give him about $.50 a bag. You should also aim to tip the maid $1 a night. This is in upscale hotels though, you likely won’t have a bell boy in mid range hotels.
Restaurants: In high end restaurants a tip of 10% will often be added, but expected if not. If service is included you will see the word “propina” or “servico” on the bill. For low end restaurants or cafes tip aren’t required however rounding up is a nice gesture.
Bars: Like restaurants you should look for the word “propina” or “servico” if this isn’t included then you could round up the total if the service was good. Otherwise it isn’t required.
Other: You should expect to tip tour guides if you go on a tour. You should give local guides $2-3 for a small tour. If you are doing a full day your then its $5-10 per person for the guide and half that for the driver.
